This upcoming benchmarking trip to Rwanda Our visit aims to achieve the following: 1. Pay a courtesy call to the Chief Justice of Rwanda. 2. Engage with the Mediation Committees (Abunzi) to learn from their experiences and explore opportunities for collaboration. The trip offers valuable opportunities for our mediators to gain exposure to regional mediation practices, especially considering the Court Annexed Mediation Rules 2022, which permit International Private Mediation.

     This trip is expected to:

            Enhance Mediators' Competence:

  • By interacting with Rwanda’s Mediation Committees (Abunzi), our mediators will learn first-hand the community-based conflict resolution techniques that are central to Rwanda's legal culture. This practical exposure will broaden their skill set and understanding of diverse mediation approaches.

            Expand Regional Networks:

  • Engaging with Rwanda's judicial system and Mediation Committees will help our mediators build strong cross-border professional relationships. These connections can open avenues for future collaboration in regional mediation cases.

    Positioning for International Recognition:  
  • The trip aligns with our goal of positioning our mediators for international mediation roles. The experience will provide them with the regional exposure necessary to mediate beyond Kenya, setting a foundation for their involvement in global mediation forums.
